panton "bar boy"

panton "bar boy"
Designed by Verner Panton, 1963

Mobility in the home - this was one of the key themes which Danish designer Verner Panton repeatedly addressed in the course of his distinguished career. In his early work we can already discern a preference for light materials and visual lightness, and starting in the 1960s, Panton created a whole series of items of castor-based furniture - in keeping with the wish for flexibility so prevalent at that time. One of Panton's best-known and most popular pieces of castor-based furniture was "Bar Boy", designed in 1963 and produced through 1971. Alongside the originals countless cheap copies were in circulation at the time.

The "Bar Boy" is a mobile container and side-table rolled into one. Its cylindrical form reflects both Panton's preference for basic geometric shapes and its intended purpose. In three segments of different heights, each of which is adjustable, it provides ample space for bottles, glasses, small snacks, cigarettes and ash trays, and any manner of small items. The top cover of the uppermost segment doubles up as the table-top or rest. The "Bar Boy's" body consists of tubular bent laminated wood with a colored lacquer finish. The individual segments as well as the circular top cover are interconnected by a metal rod, and can be swiveled outward in any direction.

Lacquered wood in your choice of black or white, chromed metal.
