yanagi elephant stool
Vitra Design Museum, in collaboration with Japanese designer Sori Yanagi, introduces a contemporary version of Yanagi's classic Elephant Stool. Originally designed in 1954 the fiberglass Elephant Stool was the first all plastic stool in the history of design.
Its grounded, volumetric form quickly earned it the nickname Elephant Stool in countpoint to Yanagi's airy plywood Butterfly Stool, also designed in 1954. Now re-engineered in recyclable polypropylene, the new Elephant Stool is lightweight, stackable and suitable for outdoor use. The unity of elegance and purity is evident in the Elephant Stool, as suited to a traditional Japanese household as it is to a Western interior, balcony or garden.
Four colors are currently available: white, black, red and grey.
