A NEW WAY OF LOOKING AT LIGHT
Everything looks better in the right light. The Leaf light gives the choice
of what’s right to each individual. Herman Miller and designer Yves Béhar
achieved this by putting the person in charge of the technology. Asimple
touch control allows an easy change from warm to cool light. It also lets
the individual choose the light intensity and color that best suit a mood,
a task, or a location. The slim profile of Leaf houses innovations that
keep the LED light cool to the touch without requiring a fan to dissipate
heat. And, true to its name, Leaf is kind to the world—minimal materials,
LED efficiency, and Design for the Environment protocol combine to ensure
Leaf is as sustainable as it is illuminating.
INDIVIDUAL CONTROL
Leaf puts control in people’s hands, or more accurately, their fingertips.
Sliding a finger along a groove in the light’s base adjusts intensity or
changes light from warm to cool. The individual can position Leaf for
direct lighting or fold it for subtle, ambient light.
TURNING ON THE TECHNOLOGY
Leaf addresses one aspect of LED lights that has limited their use—the
intense heat they produce and the noisy fans required to dissipate it.
Leaf handles this issue with a proprietary heat distribution system that
operates silently because it eliminates the need for a fan.
KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT
Leaf uses less of the world’s resources to give better light. It consumes
12 watts of power, about 40 percent less than compact fluorescent lights,
and it sheds full light for up to 60,000 hours.
THINK PINK LEAF FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH
Herman Miller for the Home is adding a new dimension to the Leaf™ personal
light. A limited-edition model, fashioned in pink, will be the company’s
first-ever product campaign to increase awareness and raise funds for
breast cancer research and treatment. Herman Miller will donate a
percentage of the proceeds to breast cancer awareness, research and
treatment. Each light is numbered and carries the signature of the
designer, Yves Behar. Its form and functionality resemble the shape of the
pink ribbon, which is a powerful symbol for breast cancer remembrance,
support and activism.”
According to the American Cancer Society, the chance of a woman having
breast cancer during her life time is about 1 in 8. In 2007, approximately
180,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over 40,000 women
and 400 men will die from it in the United States alone. However, with
early detection through screening, increased awareness and improved
treatment those numbers are decreasing. Please consider the promotion of
this program and product as a way to give back to the community while
supporting a vital cause.
