Hans Könecke, founded TECTA in 1956. Below is a quote from him in 1974:

"My opinion about design: a lot of nothing, a lot of effort, little sense and an insufficient relation to the human being. We should forget the word "design"

Architect Hans Könecke began as an entrepreneur in Venezuela where he made his first designs. Back in Germany he founded Tecta in Lauenförde in 1956 where mostly his own designs where manufactured. In 1972 he sold the company to Axel and Werner Bruchhäuser who began to produce original Bauhaus-reeditions and the collaboration with contemporary artists as Jean Prouvé, Stefan Wewerka or Alison and Peter Smithson. Today the chair D 49 is the last design by Hans Könecke still in production.
