In the early 1940s, after working all day on MGM set designs, Charles Eames returned to his small L.A. apartment and his wife, Ray. Together the two designers worked through their evenings, using thin sheets of veneer and a bicycle-pump compressor, experimenting with wood-molding techniques. The technology they developed during those late hours made their revolutionary furniture designs possible, including this beautiful and practical dining-height chair. Comfortable, practical, proven.

This 28.75-inch-high molded plywood chair has natural face veneers and maple inner plies with a 5-ply seat and back and 8-ply legs.

New Colors in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Charles Eames' birth. Designers Charles and Ray Eames established their long and legendary relationship with Herman Miller in 1946 with the boldly original molded plywood dining and lounge chairs. Since then, the aesthetic integrity, enduring charm, and comfort of the chairs have earned them recognition as the best of modern design. And to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Charles Eames' birth, the chairs are now available in richly grained birch veneer, like the original. A series of new colors refreshes the palette and recalls the times when the chairs were introduced.

Finish choices. The chairs are offered with birch veneer in eight new finish colors (red, green, orange, black, light blue, white, and yellow); these stains allow the wood's natural characteristics to show through.
