George Nelson designed the chests soon after returning from his first trip to Tokyo in 1951. The chests are reminiscent of Japanese tansu, traditional Japanese antique furniture. They were intended, in Nelson’s view, to demonstrate what he liked most about Japanese design – “a sense of fitness in the relationship between hand, material, use and shape.”

Constructed of rosewood-stained teak with white drawer pulls. Available with or without white painted pedestal bases. Six drawer chests have white laminate tops while the nine drawer chests come with wood tops.
