Small, wall-mounted bookshelves have become rare in today’s interiors. In the mid-twentieth century, however, several prominent designers focused their skills on this furniture genre — including Jean Prouvé. His Rayonnage Mural can be used in many different places in the home — above a sofa or next to the dining table, for example. The vertical wall brackets, which evoke the shape of an aeroplane wing, are made out of bent sheet metal. Together with the softly rounded edges of the solid wood shelves, they give this perfectly proportioned piece the qualities of a wall sculpture. With the addition of just a few objects, Rayonnage Mural enhances the appearance of any room.
